I am currently in my 1st year in Computer Science. There are various programs to choose from:
- Computer Science - Specializations for CS
- Communications & Media
- Computational Biology
- Computer Engineering
- Information Systems
- Electronic Commerce
*Courses I have expressed interest before are linked
Originally I thought I'd go into Communications & Media as I felt things like 3D/Games will be interesting. Then after I saw some projects, I think it cannot make it. The games are far cry from whats currently out there
Then I thought about pure Computer Science. But looking at the modules more closely, I think its very accademic. eg. I will need 4 Science & 4 Maths, Maths probably helps in logical thinking, but I question I will need such advanced maths in my work. Science will likely go wasted/forgotten ...
Then I looked at Electronic Commerce and felt that that will be whats needed now in the industry, e commerce. Also I thought there will be more web development. But after hearing from a tutor that thats more for people that want to escape programming, mostly business. I re-considered ...
Now I am thinking between Information Systems & Computer Science. What are your thoughts, is it beneficial to study part business part Comp Sci? Some says I will be a "jack of all trades, master of none". What are your advice?
