I am graduate student.I do not have any work experience so I was thinking about taking Sun Java certification to boost my profile.It costs around 200$ I think.So I was wondering if the certification is worth taking and does it add value.

No and no. I have two Java certifications, but I've never been asked about them. I don't think they have much value. –  duffymo Sep 23 '11 at 1:17

Official certifications will strengthen your resume. Experience will always be more important but any verifiable credential will increase your chances of getting hired. If you're competent and know you can pass the test without investing in multiple retests or professional tutoring, I'd say it's worth it.

As an alternative, consider building a personal project to demonstrate your skills, this gives you experience as well as shows you can actually get things done.
