Best social networking places for programmers
What are good social coding sites?

In my highschool I don't know anyone who knows a lick or programming. Everyone is a braindead monkey.

Are there any websites that are kind of like a Facebook for programmers? Not necessarily a Q/A website, but a place to just talk to others. The reason I want this is because I would like to work with other programmers on projects because this is one of the best ways to get better at programming, and also possibly make a few friends.

The chat rooms in Stack Overflow aren't what I'm talking about, whenever I look there is hardly anyone using any of the chat rooms that I would use.

So what are some good websites for meeting up with other programmers? Not just 'professionals' but all sorts of programmers.

I'm sure there are smart people at your school. It's just that they are interested in other things besides computers. Why don't you talk to your math teacher about a computer club? You may not get many members to start with, but if you have a mission(become better programmers) and a plan to accomplish it (create a user group, tell people about it and its mission and how you'll accomplish it), and the help of others like teachers or other people passionate about computers, then you can grow your own community.

Google programming contest and you'll get hits for Google and other sites like topcoder which you can use to get ideas for programs you and your friends can work on.

You can also Google open source projects and see if there are any projects you are right for.

Try http://www.meetup.com/ to see if you can find any group in your area.

Good luck! You can be part of the future technology leaders!

Haha of course there are other smart people in my school. I was being sarcastic. And there are no programming clubs, there is an AP comp class (I'm taking it also) but its very basic stuff, people only see it as a class, not a fun activity. – Gabe Nov 8 '11 at 15:07
