What are the desired properties of a mobile phone for mobile computing testing? For example, I could develope a android app for real-time gps tracking, gaming.

Is it the faster the cpu the better? What are the properties of a mobile phone needed for a comfortable development?

Hm ... the number of devices is huge, but I would be much less paranoid about letting you use cycles on my home computer than letting you run something on my cell phone and send data back. –  Job Dec 26 '11 at 15:40
This is about a device, right? Not about programming? –  S.Lott Dec 26 '11 at 15:52
Its an odd question certainly - the platforms are what they are, for iOS and WP7 the question makes very little sense. For Android its a bit more reasonable but then one would have to worry about the highly variable capability of devices (as in what do you target?) –  Murph Dec 27 '11 at 14:56

Choose your device based on your target audience. If you think your potential users will have low end phone there is no point in developing and simulating applications on high end phones.

Also as you have mentioned Android you might want to test the application on multiple devices with multiple (at least 2) configurations rather than getting single costly phone.
