In a recent servery, Eclipse came out on top as the most used IDE Infographic My question is how does managing Eclipse installations work in industry? I have been trying this tool called Yoxos which allows teams to manage eclipse installation profiles, but has a limited number of plugins with additional support for plugins outside their set number being somewhat flaky. I've found very little documentation on how to use the tool (even when talking with its developers), and have found it difficult, frustrating, and inconvenient to use. Still I weigh that against the chances of my Eclipse installation somehow screwing up and get on with using Yoxos.
Are tools like Yoxos used in industry, or does each member of the team manage their own installation of their IDE (Probably Eclipse), and as long as they commit / push code, no one really minds how it gets written?
I spent my placement year last year at a company of less than 30 where the "roll your own" principle was used, which made sense, but I'm thinking in a bigger team, you want to dictate code quality rules as law and selected plugins (to format, do x and y etc.) rather than a suggestion.
Thanks in advance.
