Programmers Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional programmers interested in conceptual questions about software development. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am a database developer and I have rather limited experience with interface design. I am currently working on a project in my free-time a freetime which is mostly data centric and I would like to develop an eye-catchy interface for it using Silverlight.

What I am looking for are examples of nice and interesting LOB applications in Siverlight without the use of paid frameworks. So far, I could only find something like Telerik sample application, but it uses a lot of Telerik controls I can't afford to buy.

Are you sure you want to use Silverlight for this? It's a technology that Microsoft has openly admitted to have abandoned. – Thijs van Dien Dec 27 '12 at 0:32
@ThijsvanDien Where did MS admit this? – Alexander Galkin Dec 27 '12 at 10:22
They called HTML5 the future and announced to focus on that rather than on Silverlight. Then they made public that Metro (or whatever it's called now) will not support any plugins. Rumors started quickly and MS responded that Silverlight still has its role. Yet they're not much promoting its use anymore (the Silverlight blog hasn't had a post in 4 months), the community has become suspicious and Linux support has already been dropped.
