What is the market like for custom apps or scripts using the OpenOffice.org API? I started delving into it a while back. I found it a fairly painful environment to work in. Is there any demand for this skill set? I might keep at it if it seemed like there was money to be made.

My suspicion is that it's virtually non-existant.
In large part this is because Microsoft Office still reigns supreme in the enterprise. Beyond that though those companies who do us OO will likely either be of a technical bent and therefore carry out such work themselves, or us OO for reasons of cost and are therefore unlikely to have budget for such things.
