I am a little confused over the costs for implementing the Google-places api in an iPhone App. (BTW: I'm asking here instead on a Google site, since I cannot find a valid place on Google which allows me to ask this question!)
Google states: Usage Limits: The Google Places API has the following query limits: Users with an API key are allowed 1 000 requests per 24 hour period. Users who have also verified their identity through the APIs console are allowed 100 000 requests per 24 hour period. A credit card is required for verification, by enabling billing in the console. Your card will not be charged for use of the Places API. While the lower limit is sufficient for development and testing, we recommend enabling the higher limit before launching your application.
So if I use the 'API key' in my App and the App becomes successful say with 10,000 of searches every day I will now need to pay Google for the results of all my users running my App. If my App depends on advertising or a low cost purchase charge I can see my App costing me a lot of money to cover just Googles the search costs.
1) Is this scenario right? If so,
2) Does Google offer a way to provide 'free search' in an App (perhaps requiring Googles embedded adverts.
3) Is there another search API with is 'free to implement' in an iPhone App or have a way to 'profit share' the results and associated embedded advertising?
