I would like to know about high end graphics library in C and Fortran. I have heard about OpenGl and Direct X. But I find that OpenGL is practically low end library. Is Direct X is in C too?

I really need to have a very high end graphical library in C.

Define "high end". What do you want to do with the library? Create a game? Create a game engine? Create graphics? ... – Sardathrion Jul 5 '12 at 7:50
For such a vague question anything from popen("gnuplot ...", ...) to SDL or CERNlib could be an answer. – SK-logic Jul 5 '12 at 8:51

To help you out with the language a bit, "high end" means good quality. "High level" means highly abstracted, as opposed to "low level" which gives you primitive nuts and bolts to work with. OpenGL is a high-end, low-level library. "High level" tools are, in theory, easier to work with. For an easy graphics library to use, I'd suggest SDL. Or even ncurses/pdcurses for variable levels of "graphics". Of course, OpenGL is pretty simple if you use glut of glui. – Philip Jul 6 '12 at 15:07

You can have a look at SDL and (if you are oriented to videogames) Allegro libraries.

They are both relatively simple to use.
