Where can I learn about browser-specific quirks?

I am a professional iOS, Java and C# programmer. Now I want to build a website. The problem is I have already started building it and I am finding IE is not rendering it correctly. It is rendering much better in FF however.

Where is the best resource for someone in my position? I am a professional programmer but I need something to get me up to speed quickly with the 'quirkiness' if you will, of css and html.

Quirksmode.org is probably the single best reference for browser compatibility issues. Once you track down which elements or CSS are related to your issues, the site will help you understand exactly what's happening differently in each browser and ways to resolve your problems.

"Getting up to speed" with the 'quirkiness' of css and html requires years of experience and perseverance. There is no shortcut.

Set your strategy

Forget about quick fixes and set your strategy. It would be more helpful to set your approach on identifying the browser compatibility issues before looking forward for solutions how to fix it.

1. Identify Your Audience - there is a great tool that helps with this task Google Analytics.
2. Checking Screenshots - there is a lot of fuss about rendering websites in different natural browsers. Browser shots is fantastic in helping with that
3. Working in the Cloud - Have a look at Cloud testing. One great inclusion here which isn’t seen elsewhere is the ability to automate testing. You can tell Cloud Testing to render your site in regular intervals and store the results for you digitally.
4. Choosy Browser Compatibility - try to concentrate on one major browser first, like Chrome or IE.
5. Desktop Testing ? - consider all hand-on debuggers that you may get from F12 command. In addition, do consider mobile user audience in your testing strategy.
