For example, code ownership/authorship rights, non-compete terms, vacation/holidays, working hours, termination notices from any of the sides, etc.

Simple rule: Everybody seems to have a say in how I do my work (especially the guys from marketing) so I want to have a say in how they do theirs as well. I would love that. I would even love more if I got the money we would not throw out the window if I had a say :D

Not having these things spelled out in your employment contract at all is best. The best contract is a standard contract. If you develop a relationship based on trust and respect with your employer they will be more receptive to what sorts of perks you think you should enjoy than if you develop an adversarial relationship.

A few that top my list:

  • Less "dealing with the customer", more design/coding.
  • More flexible start time, not just 9-5.
  • Better infrastructure/resources - specifically a faster computer, and better internal documentation.
  • More team collaboration (although this has been getting significantly better as of late).

If your contract specifies that there are standard company hours, flex time would be relevant. A job description involving customer support may prevent flex time. The last two, not so much. – JeffO Nov 7 '10 at 16:45
