Possible Duplicate:
How do I improve my coding skills?
How I do become a better programmer as a junior developer

The programming that we learn at university is not that vast, like those are really small exercises to build our logic, but everyone knows that this will not be the scenario when I'll get out in the market as a professional programmer, I really want to make real life programs which would actual make some impacts and will be useful.

Tell me in the light of your experience that how should I start making those programs and polish my self as a professional programmer, if there are any sources available for it then kindly also recommend me those.

I would not be so sure. Very often in the Real World(tm) you get small logic exercises where the difficulty isn't so much in the complexity of the program but finding where the hell the code needs to go. Very few programmers work on new programs; they maintain and expand what is there.

If you want to make real life programs, go right ahead - nothing is stopping you. Take a real life problem you face, then solve it.

Get an internship at a software company

Google summer of code

Write small projects for fun

Contribute to open source projects

Various programming competitions (online or offline, participating will teach you much even if you don't have a chance of winning)

Can I get an internship? I'm in a second semester at my university, so do companies offer internships to students like me who just know the basics of programming and can make simple programs. –  Umer Hassan Dec 11 '12 at 17:07

Yes. If you show initiative and skill they will want you even if you don't have much experience. It's valuable to them because it makes it more likely that you will apply for a full-time job there after you complete your degree. –  Minthos Dec 11 '12 at 17:17

@UmerHassan: Some companies do. Does your school have an actual department or a councilor to manager internships? If so, speak with them about how you could get into an internship. –  FrustratedWithFormsDesigner Dec 11 '12 at 18:25
