Programmers Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional programmers interested in conceptual questions about software development. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Our company is making an internal project and they have assigned us mock positions for this. I was assigned as a Config Manager / Release Manager / Build Manager.. but i am clueless what to study in order to fit the assigned role effectively.

What are the responsibilities of this role? What skills do I need to do this role effectively? How should I be interacting with the other roles on this project?

More generally: what makes a great release manager?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

resource requests are not quite welcome at Programmers. As far as I understand, one would rather present an underlying problem instead - a problem that was intended to be solved with particular resource requested – gnat Jan 31 at 10:28

I edited this out of the "please tell me what to read" format, since that type of question is off topic here. Maybe you can edit this some more to make the question less general -- it's an interesting topic, but I'm not sure where to begin answering. – jimwise Jan 31 at 14:04
the simple answer is to study SCM stuff. HTH. – gbjbaanb Jan 31 at 16:58
