I am using SSRS to enter data into a table which tracks changes made to advertising pages. The entries are made by users as the changes occur and are tracked by date/time stamp and user id.
Since we are involving humans, mistakes will happen. I have a reviewing process that will make adjustments to the data either for quantity errors or misapplication errors. I would like to have an update process whereby the reviewer can change any field saving the change for reporting. I would like to keep a log of the changes and perhaps a reason code.
For example: User A enters Job 1234 Page 5 and ChangeType = Simple. My reviewer says that changetype should by = Complex. The reviewer would update the table and a log entry would be created that says Job 1234 Page 5 ChangeType = Complex Reason Code = A1 - ChangeType incorrect
I would have to develop the reason codes with the help of the reviewer but I hope I am explaining my concern.
The ultimate goal is to provide change management support as well as auditability regarding changes.
So my question is this what is the best practice regarding change or updates to a table and traceability of those changes?
