Could you guys suggest some books for Information Extraction/ Retrieval that focus not only on theory but also pragmatic development. I really liked these lectures and would like to further explore along similar lines.

I just watched the first few minutes of the course - seems quite academic but in terms of parsing and working with Text, Manning's new book Taming Text has been handy for me in getting a more formal background on techniques to use for working with text.
