I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.S. in Software Engineering. Just under 10 months ago I started a new development job. I didn't think I could hate any job more than I hated my previous job, but I was wrong. I do not like the team environment that I'm forced to work in, and I already cannot deal with the astronomic levels of stress that is involved with this type of job. Additionally, my passion is not computers - I am passionate about helping animals. I think my next step is to pursue a PhD, and try to use my research to shape my career into a career in which I can help animals - hopefully a career that allows me to utilize my organized and systematic nature, with low-to-moderate stress, and low interaction with others. I do not enjoy teaching people, so becoming a professor is out of the question.
If I do a PhD in Computer Science, I can take electives from the following departments:
- Civil and Environmental Engineering
- Computer and Information Science
- Decision and Information Sciences
- Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
I have no idea how I could combine helping animals with any of these disciplines. I'm sure there is a way, but I'm so buried in the problem that I cannot see the answer. Can anyone help?
