I'm not sure if this is the best place for this, but as a part of a project we are createing a software specification which partners may choose to implement with whatever code they like. We may also release open-sourced software code - but right now we are working on the spec.
What are some good licenses for specifications? I feel like the spec needs to have some kind of license so it can't be hijacked and made proprietary. Maybe something like the "Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike (CC BY-NC-SA)" creative commons license. Does anyone have any experience with publishing and licensing software specifications and could you offer any advice?
BTW, I'm not trying to prevent someone from writing code (it is a service) that is commercial in nature, I just want to make sure the spec is open. And if we decide to open source our code, I know how to handle that already.
