I have just graduated and a few weeks ago I've started a job as a developer. This is my first IT job ever apart from some insignificant apprenticeships. I've joined the team composed of 3 people. They maintain, and develop some Swing Application and my role is to help them, and to develop some new modules.
My question is - is it a good technology to learn? I mean is it worth to learn Java Swing yet? Some of my friends say that Swing is something completly obsolete and with no perspectives for the nearest future. Project that I'm involved will probably finish after 1 or 1,5 year, and possibly I will stay here for that time. Generally I enjoy what I'm doing here.
But... After work I do not have enough time and power to learn something not connected with my job (I'm 24 and I have many duties after work), so after 1 year I would be probably skilled only in Swing. Is it possible to find a job in this field?
What do you think?
