Programmers Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional programmers interested in conceptual questions about software development. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Almost every major industry has it's standard publications which are considered "must reads" in that particular field. After spending some time on Google looking for web application publications, I've come up empty; are there any high quality web application publications available online or through print that someone can point me to?

What technology? A lot of what you might be looking for are by technology (ie. Java, .NET) –  Walter Dec 14 '10 at 15:25
Are you talking about magazines or peer-review journals? Like "Journal of Medicine" but for web development? –  Ryan Hayes Dec 14 '10 at 16:35
If I had to choose a specific technology it would be Java Wed Development - but many principals of enterprice application development are common accross technologies - one that included Java as well as PHP, Python, ASP would be acceptable too - The higher level journals would be of interest to me - really the important distinction is Enterprise Web Application Development –  walnutmon Dec 20 '10 at 14:10

Good question; as one commenter pointed out, there are trade sites/magazines that focus on a technology, but like you I've not seen a publication that focuses just on web apps and their development.

Two publications that have a lot of web-dev-related content and may be of interest:

  1. Hacker Monthly, which plucks out some of the most popular/best-written content from the programmer news site, Hacker News, aka HN. Since HN is run by Paul Graham of YCombinator, which mostly funds web app startups, most of the content on HN and in Hacker Monthly should at least be interesting to you.
  2. PragPub, more generally about programming, but plenty of mentions of web development.

Hope that helps!

If you're talking .NET

These aren't specific to webapps, but often contain a large number of articles on development in the web space:

walnutmon was asking about Java Enterprise Web App Development specifically. –  Slomojo Dec 21 '10 at 2:20
