I'm aware of JavaOne etc but don't think I can persuade my Boss to pay for a trip to San Francisco. So I was wonder if anyone knew of, or had attended any UK based conferences for Java Developers that they would reccomend?

The LJC organise several conferences a year, the most recent one being a very successful Open Conference. We plan to hold more ~150 person open conferences next year.

JAX London is a major conference that the LJC is helping support.

QCon London is another major conference

Don't think the LJC is any good for me personally (Glasgow based), but thanks for the link to JAX I may be able to persuade the company to part with the cash for that. Can't get QCon to load but I'll try again later. Thanks for the answer – Kevin D Dec 15 '10 at 11:12
@Kevin D Do you belong to a local JUG in Glasgow? We'd be interested in working together (starting to reach out to all UK groups) – Martijn Verburg Dec 15 '10 at 11:18
@Martijn I don't, but I'm looking around just now to see if anything is availble here. – Kevin D Dec 15 '10 at 11:21
Got my company to sign off on a trip to JAX London. Should be interesting :) – Kevin D Mar 16 '11 at 13:58
Will hopefully see you there :) – Martijn Verburg Mar 16 '11 at 15:59

If you can pursuade your boss to pay for a trip to Belgium you can always visit Devoxx (former Javapolis)

Yup. About the size of JavaOne these days. Flights direct from LCY to Antwerp, Eurostar or fly to Brussels then train isn't too bad. – Tom Hawtin - tackline Mar 16 '11 at 14:09

There is a conference held in Glasgow that is free. It looks quite popular and also covers an interesting variety of topics.

Not a Java-only conference, but by far the best conference for Java programmers in the UK IMO is the ACCU Conference near Oxford. 2011 conference is April 13-16. It's the only UK conference I go to.
