I haven't looked at Java Garbage Collection for a while and feel the need for a refresher on it.

Anyone recommend a resource or two?

This document is about tuning, but will also give you a good overview about garbage collection/memory management in Java.

When you do have special questions, perhaps it is answered here.

IBM has a good article: Java theory and practice: Garbage collection and performance (read about finalizers and how they can be bad).

In the end, I often go to "Effective Java". Bloch says "Finalizers are unpredictable, often dangerous, and generally unnecessary".
