I have been a Windows Application developer and just moved into Web development.I have very little experience with Web development. So can anyone suggest a book on Ajax which explains all concepts in Layman language.

What you really want are a few books on Javascript and web frameworks. I would suggest Learning Rails and follow that one up with "Javascript The Good Parts"

For AJAX, as opposed to broader JavaScript frameworks, I recommend Professional Ajax (Wrox publication) by Zakas, McPeak, & Fawcett. They take a good approach to explaining the varying XHR object creation process across browsers, absent a framework abstracting it away.

The Wrox books are usually a good choice.
