Programmers Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional programmers interested in conceptual questions about software development. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've noticed that a substantial percentage of questions fall in "What should I learn next to improve my programming?" and "Where can I find good material for study to improve my programming?" and it'd be nice to compile a list of easily accessible material for weekend learning. I'll start the list with a wonderful set of course notes that covers pretty much all aspects of functional programming and a portion of formal verification with the interactive Coq proof assistant: CIS 500: Software Foundations.

"List of..." questions aren't really welcome on the site. They're not constructive and making them CW doesn't change that fact. – ChrisF Apr 5 '11 at 8:35
@ChrisF: Huh? So all the other "personal advice" questions are constructive? Just skimming the front page I already see a whole bunch of reference request questions so go moderate those. – davidk01 Apr 5 '11 at 8:39

@ChrisF: Also, your top rated question post is a "list of..." question and is not nearly as useful as a list of references to a common question pattern. – davidk01 Apr 5 '11 at 8:47

my top rated question is from a period when the rules about what was and wasn't acceptable were different - much in the same way as the rules over on Stack Overflow have changed. I wouldn't post that question now. Also I don't have time during the day to read every post so I tend to only moderate what gets flagged. – ChrisF Apr 5 '11 at 8:54

It helps to be specific. We don't know you, and we don't know your interests or aptitudes. If you were to, for example, pick a topic and wanted focused help on that topic, we can provide advice and guidance. Indeed, for some topics, that's already been done, as a search will often reveal. Functional Programming is quite broad. You might want to start with Haskell tutorials and follow-up with specific questions. – S.Lott Apr 5 '11 at 11:17
