I would like to check out some real-world web applications that work offline using HTML5 (application cache and local storage, I believe).

I am not able to find any. I can find a lot of experimentations, but not an application with actual users. Why is that?

@FrustratedWithFormsDesigner if you take a look at html5demos.com you will notice that several of the demos have an 'offline' tag next to them. These may be similar to the experiments that @Dan mentioned. – instanceofTom Apr 26 '11 at 18:26

See HP (was: Palm) webOS apps, they're HTML/CSS/JS apps, except 3D games.

My fav HTML5 game is http://alexhaefner.com/criticalmass/ (there's a webOS app version, too)

I would imagine it is because localStorage is only supported by recent browsers (Chrome 5, FF 3.5, Safari 4, IE8, Opera 10.5) and people are still supporting earlier versions, IE7 in particular. It's not easy to write a neat fallback for localStorage for IE7 without implementing something which would work equally in all browsers.

Give it a year or so and I think you'll find a massive increase in usage.

Local storage is a concept that is still catching up, and not supported very well by browsers across the board.

I presume you are talking about a Javascript intensive application, and would suggest that you take a look at meteor. They warn you that its an evolving JS framework, so it may not be production ready yet.
