Programmers Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional programmers interested in conceptual questions about software development. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I will be flying from the East Coast, USA to the West Coast this week and will have some spare time during the flight to read, write, etc.

I am interested in learning more about Bioinformatics from a programmers point of view since I am a programmer and not a biologist.

Can anyone recommend a free video lecture that introduces Bioinformatics from a programmers point of view? Every video I find is designed for Biologists who are unfamiliar with programming.

Thank you!

Man, I want to learn this stuff too! Perhaps MIT Open Courseware or Khan Academy is a good start to get the basics? – Job May 2 '11 at 22:56
What's to learn other than that the data is in a terrible state (i.e., don't expect self-consistency) and all the APIs provided by various organizations tend to be in a state of churn themselves. Expect a lot of work, much of which will feel like it is going to be wasted. (Fun overall though; there are some very smart people working in this field.) – Donal Fellows May 3 '11 at 8:29
