I am thinking about helping to finance an adaptation of Postgres to utilize the GPU for sequential scans. To reduce my cost, I would like to get others who are interested in the same feature to co-fund it with me. I have come across a few sites facilitating such financing, but as none of the ones I looked at had facilitated the financing of more than a few projects, I did not even bookmark their URLs.

My question What are the best sites to do this? The sites needs to be active.

EDIT: The best thing would be if coders could also commit to contribute, either by developing, testing, documenting or doing other work.

My guess is you'd be more effective pitching the idea to other companies that need the feature by reaching out to your professional network. Presumably you have friends at other software companies. Random websites aren't known for bring out VCs or angel investors. – JasonTrue May 21 '11 at 16:34

If you can't think of a customer then you won't find an investor or cosponsor, because someone who will invest in this will either be a customer of the feature or someone who believes there will be enough customers to reward the investment. When you don't know if there will be customers but you want it anyway, you generally have to build it yourself. Regardless of that, if you want to find people who want the feature, you're better off writing a first stab at the idea and publishing a paper about it or the source code. – JasonTrue May 22 '11 at 1:13

You can put your profile up on http://builditwith.me/, but it seems to be mainly aimed at people building Web Applications and the like.

In my experience you will get feedback rather quickly on your ideas.
