Programmers Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional programmers interested in conceptual questions about software development. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm looking at the description for the 70-506 exam, and it looks like it doesn't count towards any MCPD exam. Is this correct, or am I looking at this incorrect?

This is what I'm looking at: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-506&locale=en-us

Yes, that is correct. There are 7 exams for the MCPD certification.

2 Base exams:

Then 2 exams for the Windows Developer 4 certification:

  • Designing and Developing Windows Applications (70-518)
  • Windows Applications Development (70-511)

or you can take these 2 exams for the Web Developer 4 certification:

  • Designing and Developing Web Applications (70-519)
  • Web Applications Development (70-515)

or you can take this 1 exam for the Windows Azure Developer certification:

  • Designing and Developing Windows Azure Applications (70-583)

Once you take all of the exams, ie. have all 3 of the aforementioned certifications, you are a Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD).

Thanks for the info. It's too bad that the Silverlight exam doesn't count towards MCPD. Seems they could have added another track for RIA. –  Mike Cole May 24 '11 at 13:24

@Mike C: Very true. RIA Services might be a part of 70-519/515 though. I'm not sure, I haven't studied for, or written, that exam yet (I'm working on 70-513 right now). –  Steve Evers May 24 '11 at 15:18

It counts towards MCPD Phone 7 –  user36827 Sep 16 '11 at 3:29
