I want to get my certification in .NET, which certification is the best for me? For the past 8 months I have been working in the .NET 3.5 and 4.0 frameworks. How can I grow myself by appearing this exams?

I know that "certs != experience", but I still want to get certified. Right now I am working in PHP 5.3 and PostgreSQL but I want to switch directions because .NET pays a good salary package as compared to PHP.

I would start with MCTS .NET Framework 4, Web Applications (70-515).

After that, you can also get MCTS .NET Framework 4, Service Communications Applications (70-513) and MCTS .NET Framework 4, Data Access (70-516).

When you have all three of the above, you give MCPD Web Developer 4 (70-519) a try. The 70-519 exam requires you to have passed the 70-513, 70-515 and 70-516 exams.

MCTS stands for Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist and MCPD for Microsoft Certified Professional Developer.

@poter - Well, it depends on how much experience you have with the technologies. For example, in the description of exam 70-515, you can read this: "Candidates for this exam are professional Web developers who use Microsoft Visual Studio. Candidates should have a minimum of two to three years of experience developing Web-based applications by using Visual Studio and Microsoft ASP.NET". @Kristof Claes:) okies but if i have only 3-4 months experience in .net ... actualy i have some knowledge of .net 3.5 in the last year but right now i m working in php. @poter - I'm not sure if the pricing system is a global one. It could depend on the country you're living in and maybe even (but I doubt this) the test center where you go to do the exam. Here in Belgium, an exam costs 140 euro. You check this page (register.prometric.com/Index.asp) to see if you can get a pricing for your country. – Kristof Claes Jun 21 '11 at 9:49

I would recommend an MCTS certification in .NET Framework 4, Web Applications:

This is for users who want:

To create web-based applications that run on the ASP.NET platform and are hosted on Internet Information Server.

You're better off getting certified in the 4.0 framework since it is more current.
