Programmers Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional programmers interested in conceptual questions about software development. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I was using Linux for development and I used a little terminal program named Tilda. It works like the console in Quake. I press and it rolls down. I press again and it rolls up.

Problem is that I had to switch to windows. I installed Cygwin. It works fine, but I would be happy if I had a program like Tilda to use on windows.

Do you have any idea?

Winqconsole doesn't require cygwin or Autohotkey, and works out of the box.

PoshConsole might also be worth looking at.

The de facto enhanced console on Windows is Console2 ... which lets you use backgrounds, transparency, different cursors and so on, but at the end of the day compared to the Linux and Mac world the Windows user is starved of choice in CMD.EXE wrappers.

I was afraid that someone will say something like this. :( I hate windows. :( – Adam Arold Jul 1 '11 at 9:05
You can always use Take Command Console (jpsoft.com/tccle_cmd_replacement.html) as a CMD.EXE replacement. This will give you lots of extra commands and colouring of file types etc. You can then use Console2 on top of that for the tabs and eye candy. If you already have CygWin installed there's always Mintty (code.google.com/p/mintty) – Alan B Jul 1 '11 at 13:44

There is a windows version of KDE 4.3.0 available. Maybe this is an option for you. Take a look at KDE Windows Initiative.
