You are going in the correct way, i finished both of this certifications last month with 88%. I used epractize labs java certification training lab for my preparation.

Code Ranch helps me more.

Thanx Venkat for the response..besides do u have any useful links for SCWCD study material and other related stuff..?? – Tushar Sagar Jul 18 '11 at 6:12

I did both exams, because I felt they dealt with different areas of server-based software development in the Java world. The SCWCD exam was very easy and covered a good (although somewhat dated) foundation of client-server programming. The content of the SCBCD exam was more difficult to grasp because - at least in my eyes - it included some specific concepts that were less common and required more learning to fully understand it, although I already had some practice with Java EE. If you have never done any real work within the EJB world before, the SCBCD exam can appear very difficult. Still, looking back I think I had more fun with SCBCD and had personally gained more from it.

Nonetheless, if you are doing the exam mainly to improve your job chances, I would vote for the easier SCWCD exam which will show you know the basics. Plus, there are some excellent books out there to prepare you for this exam (which is unfortunately not the case for the other exam, at least when I searched for them). My feeling is there are more companies out there interested in people that know the general stuff instead of the intricacies of the Persistence API.

Hey Ray thanx for the response..i wud b preparing myself for scwcd exam..Cud u pls provide me links for any study material and other useful stuff..?? I m not sure whether its worth or not for job prospectus but it wud enhance my knowledge in the relevant field..i had JSF and spring MVC exp in the past. – Tushar Sagar Jul 18 '11 at 6:08
The "Head First Servlets and JSP" book by Basham/Sierra/Bates is a very entertaining book many people suggested to me. IMHO it is a very good introduction to the topics. The "SCWCD Study Companion" by Charles Lyons is a dry read in comparism, but does the job of exam preparation perfectly. It is far less good at explaining things, but excels in summarizing the stuff you need to know. Great as a second book that might even come useful as a reference book later on. – Ray Jul 18 '11 at 19:07
