Programmers Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional programmers interested in conceptual questions about software development. It's 100% free, no registration required.

i would like to work as a obj-c developer but i don't really see which way to head to : games or apps for companies, I have not really found many job advertisings for "games developer", or if it's common to look for an "open GL" or "Cocos2d" specialized developer?
or if, on the other hand, i should stay away from games development (maybe more for experimented developers?) and be sure to keep focus on the ability to make an app for a company.
It seems to me that the most downloaded apps in the AppStore are "games", so the potential is really large, but maybe i'm mistaking and this is not what companies are asking for when they look for a developer?
Thanks for your advices.

Hi Paul, I'm sorry your question was migrated here unnecessarily, but we can't tell you what path your career should take: there are myriad facts specific to your situation that should inform such a big decision. If you have a specific, practical problem, that'd be a question for here. If it's about gaming, consider posting it on Game Development.SE. – user8 Jul 18 '11 at 21:06

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. For help clarifying this question so that it can be reopened, see the FAQ.

Decide which one you want and build an app in that area. If you're only going to be happy working on a game, go that way. You may find that the only opportunities are outside the gaming industry. I'd be more impressed with someone in an interview that demonstrated an application they were passionate about. It will probably be of higher quality.

Really this is going to depend on where you are able to work and you ability as a programmer, but to build games or not to build games predicament is not unique.
