Are there any iOS Development Certifications online? offline?

The only reason I have a cert is to pad my CV. There is no other reason b/c the tests are BS and they don't teach you how to be a good developer. :) – Tyanna Aug 8 '11 at 19:58

Dan is exactly correct. An app in the app store is a big deal to anyone looking to hire an iOS developer. It's way better than some silly certification. On the other hand, if you don't actually want a job as an iOS developer then go ahead and buy a cert. Its your money. – Jim In Texas Aug 9 '11 at 1:27

There will be always firms that offers certificates. Cash cow (:. Having an app in the app store beats all them hands down tho. Certificates says that 'I have trained to do that', on the other hand a developed app says 'I did that'. – Hakan Deryal May 4 '12 at 19:32

The University of Washington's Extension Program has a 3-class, 9-month certification curriculum in iOS and Mac Application Development. I think the coursework is in-class only, but there might be an online option as well. UW is a very well respected university.

This is a pretty solid program! I'm biased, though - I'm an instructor for the iOS course :) We're developing a Web-based version of the course; you can find more details here. It'll start in spring 2013, and you can apply online. – Tim Jan 16 at 5:39

Pretty much everyone hiring iOS devs will care about the apps you have on the App Store more than anything else. That and whether you know Agile/Scrum/REST/OpenGL/Design Patterns/OOP/Unit testing/Continuos Integration so if you feel you should pad your CV you could try to add compliance to these 'buzzwords' :)

It was a no, basically. In 2011 there were no certifications in the Microsoft sense. Also when I have been hired as an iOS developer people always cared about the apps and nobody asked whether I'm certified. – doppioslash Apr 20 at 15:07

I don't believe there are currently any certification programs for iOS, but there are a few reputable training programs such as those run by Big Nerd Ranch. I agree with the comments that if you want to put something on your resume to show that you know how to write iOS apps, it should be a link to your app in the App Store.

Note: if you search for "ios certification", you'll likely find plenty of information related to certification for Cisco's IOS, which is completely unrelated to Apple's iOS.

You could always go and get a Bachelor's Degree here. They provide you with a MacBook Pro, Adobe CS Master Collection, MS Office 2011 for Mac, an iPad, and an Android Phone (all current technologies, not older models)
