Actually, I did, that's why I've said "in a good VCS". For example with Git it takes almost nothing to pass the repo around, so they could have access to all the version control data.

Which VCS are you using, if I can ask?

I have the feeling that the Average Coder Joe couldn't care less about his name in a file, perhaps added automatically by an IDE or something...

@temptar, we don't want to offend you; could you tell us more about your environment (if it's not confidental info of course)? It's really hard for me to imagine any OS or device without an option for VCSs.

Yeah. I don't even want to imagine who will maintain this kind of comments after forking the project for example. That's just too tedious.

Um, right, but in a good VCS he could find out the needed information easily anyway.

Please don't mention version control and unit testing as "cheats". Making backups of your work and working with that is a necessity. Version control just helps that keeping sane. Same about unit testing: everyone who wrote a single line of code know that some testing must be done, why not keep it organized?

Your first comment was probably better than your answer - shiny and pretty stuff is motivating. That's what matters.

+1 for the workflow - it should be working, somehow. I cannot tell how important the second step is. Maybe that's the step that will decide whether you can handle the task or not.

I like this - quite a poetic way for learning a new language. But I don't know whether we should recommend this for a beginner :D

It should be a really simple game to begin with; nowadays popular games are all about complexity.

+1, exactly the thing that I wanted to write.
