comment What is the simplest archive file format to aim for when writing collections of files?
tar is implemented in PHP by the PharData class. It is worth noting that the Single Unix Specification recommends pax as a replacement for tar and cpio.

@Ozz - Other people mention sound as a replacement of text. Moreover Agile is famous for creatively using available tools such as pen, paper, boards, cards... One can expect an Agile way of using Braille or sound in a blind/not blind environment.

comment Redundant function to clarify purpose?
With two functions, the user has two opportunities to ask himself what happens if they are called multiple times. (plus the opportunity to ask himself what happens if they are called one after the other, possibly several times).

comment Should ALL divs float left?
No, not all. Arabic and Hebrew ones should float right.

comment Two most similar programming languages of different origin
I can't imagine two similar languages that don't share their origin, back to Von Neuman, Turing or Babbage.

comment In what programming language did “let” first appear?
LISP is old enough to be a good candidate.

comment How to handle enums in an indirection with functionpointers at ANSI-C?
In C, enums get ordered as soon as they are defined, even enum Color or enum Fruit. So using an int as a generic form of enum still makes sense.

@Ozz - The question is about a team of programmers willing to welcome another programmer and adapt their programming workflow accordingly. Answers to this question make sense only in an Agile programming context and are useless in an accountancy shop.

comment How to allow innovation in an Agile Methodology
@Giorgio - Yes, this is the way I see it. The best waterfall projects I worked on were when the team leader favoured common sense among developers and told the customer a pretty "V-model/ISO9001/Huge Documentation" story. What is new with the Agile values lies in the credentials provided by the Manifesto's authors.

@MikeDunlavey - I like how your: Our team follows "Agile" resonates with: Responding to change over following a plan.

comment How to allow innovation in an Agile Methodology
Breaking down large tasks into small chunks is not an Agile thing. It has been used since the start of engineering back in ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, and is widely used in Waterfall projects. If it is used in Agile projects, it is not because of its Agile nature but because of a mindset inherited from centuries of successful achievements.

comment Can this code be made more concise?
Venerable Fortran allows array(:) = item1(:) + item2(:). Fortran compilers optimize it using vectorization features of CPUs. And Fortran does not plead guilty to functional programming.

comment Why do programmers still use mailing lists?
Maybe real projects need real programmers. Therefore, they use that communication trick as a filter.

comment Why do we need a format for binary executable files
Storing the binary files directly in the form of sequence of machine instructions IS a format.
