comment How would you feel if your code editor formatted your code for you as you typed, without tabs/spaces?
@pgfearo Consider it market research. Better to find out that you're making a niche product with 20-30% saturation prior to making it rather than after. At least you go into it knowing what you're likely to get out of it and can make the decision to continue or not based upon your improved analysis.

@pgfearo The problem I have with something like this is that it would be almost great, but the <1% of changes I don't want to make that the editor goes ahead and changes anyway would be maddening. Your editor would have to be completely customizable to the nth degree to ensure that it meets everyone's needs.

comment How does a large company make rookie mistakes which leave security holes?
@Cheshire It wasn't "common sense" when it was first done. People are not inherently security-minded; they have to learn and constantly be reminded that there are evil jerks out there that only exist to grab your data.

comment How To Deal With Terrible Design Decisions
@Ramhound No, what will most likely happen is that the PM will say that it was the consultant's fault and they'll never get hired again. It's easier to stay inside once you're inside.

comment What is the best way to lead a team of 4-5 students for a summer project?
"I can't believe..." Actually, it seems pretty common based on my experience. I only had four team-based projects (while getting a BA in CS) and they were all 300/400 level courses (i.e. "senior" level). Furthermore, none of them were anything like what I've found in the real world.

As long as the user doesn't clear their cookies, the expiration date should be adhered to by the browser.

I say set it for one year and leave it at that. It doesn't take up that much space and, if it'll help the user when they revisit your page, it'll be worth it.

comment Should I prepare to compete with a company that doesn't hire me?
@Jon Purdy: Hmmm... with an NDA, I'd see a lawyer. (Actually, I'd see a lawyer either way, just in case, but definitely if you signed something.)

IANAL but without an NDA, they'd be on tenuous footing to sue.

Sounds similar to the Peter Principle.

comment Detect frameworks and/or CMS utilized on websites in Firefox
Frankly, a good CMS should strip out anything not needed for the final product. You might do better searching for a good CMS rather than trying to reverse-engineer what others are using.

comment How to have an improved relationship with recruiters?
@crosenblum Just include a (somewhat) rude, all-caps form letter to every blind e-mail you receive explaining what you expect from your relationship with them. If they don't get it the first time, you probably don't want to work with them anyway.

comment Database GUI Programming - .Net vs MS Access
@HK1 Not necessary to keep your mouth shut; just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean it's not common practice. However, it is good to see what others are doing with Access and SqlServer, so, ask any time.

While you might be able to use MS Access as a SqlServer front-end (I've never seen it before), I can't imagine why you'd want to.

+1 for check with a lawyer. Any comment we make is pure speculation and could lead down the wrong path.
