revised How harmful is using switch(true) as a way to handle multiple conditional statements?
change *if* to *conditional* because people can't seem to see what I'm getting at.

comment How harmful is using switch(true) as a way to handle multiple conditional statements?
I wouldn't :D someone else did. I found it baffling, but I don't have a concrete reason why it's worse than multiple else ifs.

comment Is there a pattern for a more “natural” way of adding items to collections?
@ArturoTorresSánchez the discussion had moved on to more abstract ideas. Lists shouldn't keep parent properties.

What action do you perform when you want something? That is my point. It's not necessarily grammatically passive but semantically it is. WRT parent attributes, sure that is an exception, but all heuristics have them.

The actor is the the thing doing the active thing. "Wanting" is a passive thing. In programming, it's the list that changes when an item is added to it, the item shouldn't change at all.
