I think this question needs a warning like "Legal minefield ahead"

@DanM: Then that's what you ask for, i.e. ask them to type in their full legal name. If you're sorting by first name, you're really sorting on the first letter (then the second, and so on) of the first name (then the next, then so on), so the names will sort the same regardless.

Thanks for explaining the distinction. I held a completely wrong assumption!

comment Alternatives to OAuth?
I was refering to "i just find [OAuth] is the best of a bad bunch of options" which implied to me that in comparison to OAuth, OpenID is lacking. I don't know IT security, so I'm interested in answers to your question.

comment Alternatives to OAuth?
@sdolgy: if you explain why you find other options (e.g. OpenID) lacking in comparison to OAuth, and explain in you question what OAuth lacks in security, then maybe more answers would be forthcoming.

comment Is it a good idea for exams to be done on a computer?
@Jetti: universities are able to commandeer multiple rooms, halls, etc. to conduct the exams. If it's important enough, the university can get networking suspended to a room for an exam, it's what network admins are for.

It will be interesting to see if this question stays open. It feels borderline not constructive, but at the same time could elicit some really interesting answers.

comment Going about increasing salary during performance review
@Marjan Venema: I have to disagree. It could well be a cultural thing, but in the UK I have only once had a conversation with co-workers about salary, and that was when I first joined and they wanted to know what I earned before, not what I earn now.
