comment Should a c# dev switch to VB.net when the team language base is mixed?
As a C# programmer I have worked on projects that use VB.NET. But more often than not the VB.NET programmers did not know what they were doing, did not have Comp Sci degrees and wrote methods with 100s of lines of code. Therefore I leaned to ignore any job advert that asked for VB.NET.

comment Coding guidelines for seamless merging
"Never put anything under source control that can be derived from something else - this means no binaries, no generated code, no build intermediates, etc." I disagree with this, on one product the build system CHECKED all such items were the same in the SCM as the output of the tool, this was great. It let us diff generated SQL between versions, but still make it impossible for anyone to hand edit it.

comment Bad practice - switch case to set environment
Remember that if you use a config file it needs to be controlled in source code control.... Any you may have to edit the config file many times a day when you setup new test machines. I still think a config file is best, but you may wish to first look for a file named based Environment before looking at the detaul config file.

comment What problem do algebraic data types solve?
Do you get a compiler error if you fail to update a match, or is it only at run time you find out?

comment What's the point of implementing a Stack using two queues?
Anyone that can write this code and answer a few questions on their code clearly understands queue and stacks, hence a very good task to help students build the understanding.

comment How can I argue convincingly against duplicating database columns?
Be thankful that you are not trying to match together data that have come for paper based patent records and 20 odd different systems that are by the xray department etc.... A patient can be seeing a few consultants for unrelated reasons within a few weeks....
