comment How to fail an interview?
I have seen this with agents, when an agent must send 3 people or the client will go to another agent. The agent then asks someone they had placed elsewhere to pretend they want the contract and to go to the interview.

comment Handling deleted users - separate or same table?
@Adrian, I was assuming that the most common queries would be at login time and that only none deleted users would be allowed to log in.

A partition table (on IsDeleted) would remove the performance issues with using a single table.

comment MVVM or MVC? Want to use the same set of classes for WPF and ASP.NET
@PRK, Silverlight will mostly let you do everything WPF does and if you can get all your "web" users to install it, will also let to create a solution that is accessed var the web and "feels" like a web app.

comment Why don't all companies buy developers the best hardware?
You bet, the Accountants would love big monitors for their spread sheats, but the IT departments want to give anyone the same kit as they have been for the last n years!

comment How to measure an IT workplace?
"average developer turnover rate" is not enough, you need to know how long new developers stay for, as there may be a bad case of "them and us" between the old and the new. (You will be a new...)

comment How do I explain “Recursion” to a 8 years old kid?
@MainMa, we had recursion on the first day of our computer sci degree - that way students that were not up to computer sci could change degrees quickly (pity more of the "hopeless" ones did not make the change).

comment How to decide maintenance cost/terms for freelance work?
@Andre, how do you expect “the man on the Clapton ommi bus” to know that it is comparing apples with oranges? (They are the sort of people that are paying to custom web sites these days)

comment Too much version control and bug tracking overhead per change?
@edA-qa, I would hope a nuclear power plan would only have one active version of the control software and very few changes once it had gone live.
