I currently facilitate for a fantastic development team within a large retailing company. We have a heavy focus on Microsoft Dynamics NAV solutions integrated with .Net and mobile. We have developed and published applications on Android, Blackberry and iOS platforms for our clients.

I'm a life long learner and love computer security. I always have 3 books on the go at any one time.

If Tesla fought Edison, Tesla would win.

comment Should a developer be allowed to use VSS if he prefers it?
+1 to your comment. I'm seeing the world through rose coloured glasses and jobs posted on Stack Careers again. You're right. Even our shop didn't have that stuff until the team I work with started barking for it about 4 years ago.

+1 - I was writing my reply when yours came up. Bubble up is exactly what I was going for, and you're 100% right. It's more about the team and how you fit. Being surrounded with smart folks like those at Google adds to that! :)

Sounds to me like the OP has his mind made up. Why ask the question then?

So if what I'm saying "may be true" is that worthy of a downvote? My recommendation is programmers that want to be stars should work for software companies to avoid letting reporting structure interfere with their true worth!

+1 for the comment on picking a different field if you plan to learn one approach. That's insane.

comment How to earn team members respect as team lead
That depends on the nature of the tasks. If it's admin work, true. If it's coding work, false. Sometimes the worst managers are the ones that don't know how to delegate effectively. They spend all of their time fighting through tasks and none of it planning, organizing and keeping ahead of the curve for the staff they're supposed to be leading.
