comment How many hours can you be really productive per day? How?
Pomodoro could be used as a way to implement your third point...

comment Programming with a group of people I've never met
@Simon I would upvote your comment to infinite if I could... People are much more than machines, they are social beings, and the best way to know them is by talking with them before doing anything else, just make sure that the topic doesn't deviate to much from the main topic (the project) (it takes skill to do this also).

comment Why isn't Java used for modern web application development?
I don't agree with the paragraph that says: He's most likely a self-taught programmer. This is untrue these days, nowdays most people from 30's that program are competent programmers and have at least a degree.

An powerful framework, like rails also means that if something is bad implemented then most people can't replace it by something else, because that component is too tight with the framework. While for java, if I don't like Hibernate, I can use something else like cayenne or JPA for example.

comment What is the value in hiding the details through abstractions? Isn't there value in transparency?
It's all about SOLID properties that code has to have, particularly API's, since that's the type of code that most commonly hides details from implementation.

comment Should I change author name in class file if I make more than 80% changes?
+1 for the third paragraph, since the original author might know some other person who has done something in the code, but have not put his name on it.

comment Why is #include <iostream.h> bad?
@ammoQ I find java more broken in some aspects than C++, for example, the template system of C++ is much better than java, as I can do much more things in it than in java. Also having a multibyte library can be bad sometimes, because it forces you to use the same base library even if you want to do something different or if you not use something, for example AWT and Swing in server applications. But other things, java does right and the ABI is one of them, since all java programs are much more modular than C++ ones. Others are just equal, like multiple inheritance vs interfaces.

comment What is a dedicated Linux box used for?
@Catcall So we have another emacs devotee... Don't forget that Linux has tons of development tools, and almost all of them are free, unlike in windows where a fresh install has nothing for you to start developing, while in Linux you have at least a C/C++ compiler, an C/C++ library and a editor that is vim. But yes, most people use a dedicated linux box for testing stuff, mainly software that is meant to be cross platform. Apache and Mozilla come to mind...

comment Why did Git get so much hype? …while others don't?
That was also the reason why I've choose git, because it is written in a compiled language instead of python, and because of that I can simply have a portable version of git in my usb pen together with some other tools.

Actually, no one in the question or in the answer above has said that captcha was ethical or unethical, or said anything near it.
