I am a sophomore at the University of Tulsa, studying Computer Science.

I used to be a webmaster for my school's Key Club -- this is where I got into CS.

I have familiarity or competency of certain languages (Java, C, LaTeX, HTML/CSS/JS, etc), but am always ready to pick up a new one.

comment Is it actually possible to have a 'useful' programming language that isn't Turing complete?
I don't know of a CGOL implementation in CSS, but I know that Rule 110 was implemented. Can't seem to find it though, it appears to have been moved.

comment Is use of finally clause for doing work after return bad style/dangerous?
I personally would be able to understand the second one more than the first, but I seldom use finally blocks.

comment Is it better to teach conditional loops or iterative loops first?
Teach recursion first, since both techniques can be rewritten as recursion for your students: function for(n) { if(n > 0) { doStuff(); foo(n-1); } else { doStuff(); } }

comment Pointers in C vs No pointers in PHP
You can do the same stuff in PHP as you can in C. They're both Turing complete.

comment What are some famous one-liner or two-liner programs and equations?
Or !(x%2) in sane languages.

comment Tabs versus spaces—what is the proper indentation character for everything, in every situation, ever?
That is a really good feature of many editors -- the ability to go quickly through mounds and mounds of spaces.

comment Should curly braces appear on their own line?
Honestly, aren't there tools for this sort of thing?

comment Should curly braces appear on their own line?
I don't pair braces visually. I pair the last statement in one level of indentation with the closing brace. I write my C like I write my Python; I just use braces as well. I'm trying to fix a project written in Python, and I don't like the style at all.

comment Should curly braces appear on their own line?
The C style always annoyed me. Be consistent!

comment Single statement if block - braces or no?
I wonder if anyone's made a Perl program generator just by hooking up /dev/random to a Perl interpreter...

comment Single statement if block - braces or no?
@David: I've done it myself many, many times (sometimes on my own code)

But you have your opening brace in the wrong position. That much is certain.

comment What are some conventions that are often mistaken for language features?
But what's the use of it if you can't output a thing?

comment What's the worst programming book you've ever read?
That's the one that my high school used to use, back when we programmed in C++ and not Java.
