comment Why does Javascript treat days and months differently?
When it comes to Javascript, "this is why they did it" and "this makes a good sense" are two things you rarely hear together.

comment How important is it to be syntactically correct during an interview?
Exactly. You can teach syntax (particuarly if they already know some other syntax). You can't teach sound reasoning nearly as easily.

comment I'm a manager. How can I improve work relationships and communication with programmers?
+1 for donuts. We actually use cake. We have a once monthly cake that is for everyone's birthday that month (and just because if there's no birthdays that month). Not only does everybody like getting cake, but getting together and eating it also provides an informal chance for everyone to get together and talk. That includes management. My manager and his director both come to these and just talk like everybody else. That helps a ton with communication because you see them as normal people and not as managers. They also overhear when two devs start talking about slow computers over donuts.

comment Why do programmers still use mailing lists?
Absolutely true. Forums are terrible for low volume topics. TBH I find them overrated in general, but they just don't work without a certain treshold of traffic. Mailing lists don't have that problem.

comment Do job postings exaggerate their requirements?
Oh, I always loved the people who wanted 3 years of Windows 2000 administration experience... in 2001. Sometimes the people making these requirements don't have a clue what they're talking about.
