comment Why can't the IT industry deliver large, faultless projects quickly as in other industries?
It should be noted that the design and implementation of a commercial airliner system inherently includes the completion of a massive, and massively complicated, IT project, one that has to be fully and correctly functional.

comment Is an app that does nothing but link to a web site functional enough to meet Apple's iOS guidelines?
@Caleb ... well it's free to register but that particular document requires an "iOS Developer Program" membership, and that's not free.

@Caleb because somebody told me it costs money and I was too dumb to find out otherwise :-) Thanks!

I think that apps that are implemented (via PhoneGap or whatever) with web technologies are OK, so long as all (or most) content is actually packaged with the app (like the page templates etc, which is probably a good idea anyway).

OK thanks. That's exactly what I was looking for; I'm not a registered developer and the version of the guidelines I have don't include the web site thing in that section.

@Ryathal well yes of course, but my understanding from speaking with a number of iOS developers is that it's difficult to get responses from Apple before it's actually time to submit something. However I may be completely wrong, so if that's really the best thing to do in this specific case then I appreciate the response. (Make it an answer if you think it's "weighty" enough.)

comment Why is quicksort better than other sorting algorithms in practice?
Different sort algorithms have different characteristics with respect to the number of comparisons and the number of interchanges they do. And @DanLyons note that a typical sort in a library performs its comparisons via user-supplied functions, and keeping values in registers across lots of function calls is pretty tricky.

The key thing to consider in the big-O analysis is whether what's being checked is the number of interchanges or the number of comparisons. Quicksort tends to do relatively few interchanges compared to other sorts, but significantly more comparisons. In a typical library sort, where the comparisons are done by callback functions and interchanges are just pointer swaps, the comparison measure is much more important.

comment What advantages are conferred by using server-side page rendering?
In practice however the exact opposite is often true. The jQuery Mobile project, in fact, is completely based on the idea of client-side rendering.

comment Javascript modularity, server based MVC & business reality
I don't disagree that it's an interesting topic, but Stackoverflow is supposed to be about objective questions. Something like this question is basically the poster child for questions that will "likely solicit opinion, debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion."

You put a lot of effort into this question, but it just doesn't seem like a Stackoverflow question to me. Perhaps the programmers stackexchange would be a better fit.

comment Is it worth Learning XML as a web developer when JSON is better for AJAX?
If you're already a web developer, how much learning is there really to do in order to pick up XML?

Wow I'd be working on my resume in a situation like that. Sounds pretty toxic.
