Software developer. I work primarily in C#, Silverlight, SQL, and ASP[.NET] at work and home, but am trying to find a new practical language to learn that isn't quite so C-based. Right now I'm refreshing my abilities in functional programming with some F#. Also somewhat experienced with C++, PHP, Java, LaTeX, HTML/CSS, WPF, and a touch of Scheme.

Another term for common code smell If the signal-to-noise ratio is high, that means there is more signal than noise... |

A client wants us to screen work machines for pornography. Is it possible? Somehow I read "A client wants us to use touch screen machines for pornography." Kinky. |

Worst coding standard you've ever had to follow? StyleCop is great, though, IF you go in and remove those pointless standards that just make unnecessary work. Some things that StyleCop enforces are actually very, very useful. |

Computer Science: Arts or Science? @Chris - I took AP CSE, AP Calc, AP physics, and AP Gov. Only AP Gov counted for anything (a GEC) though AP CSE might have gotten me out of CSE 200 or something dumb like that. I took between 17 and 20 hours a quarter my first two years; the last two years it's been 12 to 15 hours a quarter instead. I took two summer classes last year so that helped considerably. |

Computer Science: Arts or Science? I too am a BSCSE at Ohio State. I'm managing, somehow, to finish in 4 years while a friend of mine is finishing his CIS degree in 5. So it really depends on how you organize your schedules. |

Card deck and sparse matrix interview questions @MrDatabase — Off the top of my head, doing my stack-based algorithm in O(1) space (did you mean O(n) space?) is probably impossible in O(n) time, but I'm no algorithms expert. Very nice article, though. |

How do you make slides for programming talks? Some people will swear by the beamer package. And they'll trip over themselves to help you with it over at tex.se. |

Have you read “Free Software Programmed in Haskell”? What did you think? LYAH sounds tempting simply because of its retarded title. |
