Software developer. I work primarily in C#, Silverlight, SQL, and ASP[.NET] at work and home, but am trying to find a new practical language to learn that isn't quite so C-based. Right now I'm refreshing my abilities in functional programming with some F#. Also somewhat experienced with C++, PHP, Java, LaTeX, HTML/CSS, WPF, and a touch of Scheme.

How does a government development shop transition to developing open source solutions? As someone who codes for the government, I can get behind this answer. Government code is actually kept under very tight security and is definitely NOT public. |

Best social networking places for programmers I think there are quite a few coding/programming related subreddits, and ones that center around certain technologies too, so you can get pretty specific. |

What do you wish your compiler could do for you (that it currently doesn't)? "Visual Studio 2008 for C++" ... you poor thing. Unfortunatley IntelliSense for C++ in VS2010 is hardly any good either. |

Visual Database Design Application Visio is a pretty well-done piece of software, and its graphics have become easily recognizable and interpreted. For design documentation I'd say it's the way to go, and for database design it can certainly do the job well. |
