comment What is the most effective/efficient way to develop an application with multiple people without source control?
Version control gives you this for free should IMO be corrected to Good version control gives you this for free. I've lost count of the days I've lost because svn's merge tracking isn't good enough.

comment What advantages does TFS have over Tortoise SVN in this scenario?
I have not used Mercurial, but I have used git and I regularly curse the decision that my company would use svn.

comment Job Interview Challenges
@Karl, it has to support named variables too. Goodbye to a small but non-zero set of functional languages.

comment My very first serious project and I'm concerned about security
Should that not be "use HTTPS for everything"? When everyone is on the same LAN, cookie sniffing gets a bit easier.

comment Idea for a physics–computer science joint curriculum and textbook
Sorry, where's the computer science aspect of the book? It sounds like physics and computer programming, which is something completely different.

comment How to make people new to programming stop asking me questions and distracting me?
In secondary school programming the most knowledgeable pupil usually knows more than the teacher.

comment Is writing comments inside methods not a good practice?
Here's an example: consider a method solveQuadratic(double a, double b, double c). This is a classic example of loss of significance. The code isn't going to be self-documenting in the sense that it won't tell you why you're doing case analysis rather than just using the naïve algorithm. It needs a comment to explain that. Where's the correct place to put that comment?

comment If you need more than 3 levels of indentation, you're screwed?
Basically it's saying you shouldn't program in C#, where the namespace is unindented, the class declaration is indented once, and the method declaration is indented twice. Everything inside the method declaration is therefore already indented three times, so if you need a loop or a conditional you're screwed ;)

comment What is the most complicated data structure you have used in a practical situation?
@kevin, dancing links is a brute-force backtracking algorithm - but with a plausible heuristic.
