Ya, C++ is fine. it has marginally better preprocessor. but still. A simple language with full featured preprocessor would be nice.

@Mike Of course I want it to help me prevent making mistakes! especially when the mistakes are due to unnecessary complexity. A programmers salary is not pennies from heaven, people pay for your work. Whatever makes you get to the finish line faster is better than that which does not.

No, that's how the C preprocessor works. C doesn't have to have anything to do with it.

@Nicol you are missing the point. I am not asking for sympathy nor am I demanding that c be more modern for moderns sake. The c language is fine. it does exactly what is supposed to. The preprocessor does not do what it is supposed to do, which is to provide assistance to the programmer. Relative to what is possible now even give the constraints of not touching the C language itself, the preprocessor is not making the programmers life easier compared to other preprocessors (or the like in scripting languages). C is not a classic car that I am demanding have power windows! :)

I do like programming in C. I am stating that the preprocessor is a giant pile of sh- compared to the meta stuff in java, python and anything else created after 64K was considered enough.

you can't get accidental recursive imports, but you can with includes. Which is only a short coming because the preprocessor was defined when memory usage defined feature sets of development tools.
