comment Should a developer refuse to access production server?
I'm really glad I'm not the only person who doesn't want these kinds of responsibilities.

comment Where does Rails get it's datetime for creating records?
The clock on the server - it's all processed serverside. If the app blindly trusted the user's clock, very bad things could happen.

comment How to address, “Is anyone even using this feature?” questions
On the topic of PHP deprecations, there are still people out there today learning the language and relying on long-deprecated or long-insecure methods. No amount of telling them 'X is deprecated, and will be removed, use Y instead' ever sinks in. At some point you just have to remove it.

+1 to not removing the comments if they are necessary to understanding the code.

comment Why is there a “new” in Go?
Ruby was virtually unknown in the English-speaking world until Ruby on Rails came onto the scene, ~10 years after Ruby was created.

comment Overcoming slow problem solving due to increased knowledge of what might go wrong
reminds me of 'good, fast, cheap, pick two' - when you knew less you were sacrificing on the 'good', and now that you know more, you're sacrificing on the 'fast'.

comment Is it a good idea to use Twitter Bootstrap 3 for production?
Migrating it down the road could be a pain - wait for the official release.

comment Which HTTP status codes are really OK?
Sounds like a very vague concept to me. How should you know when the site fails, more than the developers do? It's almost like you would need to say set up testing for all the different scenarios of the app, which sounds an awful lot like the automated testing the developers of the site should be doing.

comment Which past version of Netbeans IDE that has lightness almost equal or better than Eclipse Indigo?
The IDE you choose has nothing to do with the code, you can use any project in any IDE.

Amazon and Google are fairly similar in terms of design... perhaps not the Google homepage, but the rest, yes.

Do you have an example of something that isn't "plain"?

comment How do operating systems… run… without having an OS to run in?
I'm fairly sure that's what a BIOS is for - it's a really small OS that bootstraps running of the larger OS.

comment To refund or not to refund this client?
That's the thing though, 'a problem with the slideshow' is a bug that gets fixed and is not a showstopper, no project is ever 100% perfect the first time. That just sounds like an excuse on his part. I don't think you've done anything wrong here to be honest.

comment Best method in PHP for the Error Handling ? Convert all PHP errors (warnings notices etc) to exceptions?
Step 1 would be to not write code that issues warnings, notices, etc.

I downvoted it not because it's a stupid question, but because there is no real answerable question there.

comment How do you deal with the costs of too-rapid change?
I like the idea of the customer setting the priority, the hard part is laying down the law and saying 'I've started on task X, no you can not change the priority now'
