Actually, I think that Quirk Parity - programmers.stackexchange.com/a/260032/13421 - is closer to the original question. Skeuomorph's a more of a design aesthetic than programming.

sorry if i'm being dense - but how does subclassing reduce the number of characters per line? I can see that it would reduce the number of lines per class, but that's something else

you might want to set the error_reporting value in htaccess/apache to 2147483647 - it's a bitmask, and the exact flags change between different versions of PHP
